From March 29 to 30, 2025, the 18th Intercollegiate Academic Forum for Young Accounting Scholars, hosted by the Department of Accounting at Jinan University’s School of Management, was successfully held at the university. Attendees included Professor Hang Liu, Dean of the School of Accounting; Associate Professor Haoran Xu, Associate Dean; faculty members Lu Liu, Yukun Pan, Xin Yuan, and Zhiyuan Zhang; and doctoral candidates Ping Yi and Tianjiao Zhang.
Professor Youchao Tan from the Department of Accounting at Jinan University’s School of Management delivered an opening speech, extending a warm welcome to all participants. He emphasized the forum’s role in fostering academic exchange among young scholars and driving innovation in China’s accounting research. Keynote speakers included Professor Zhiming Ma(Director of the Department of Accounting, Guanghua School of Management, Peking University), Professor Hang Liu (Dean of the School of Accounting, Dongbei University of Finance and Economics), Associate Professor Haina Shi (Fudan University), Professor Shu Li (Director of the Department of Accounting, Nankai University), Associate Professor Quan Zeng (Xiamen University), Professor Min Zhang (Director of the Department of Accounting, Renmin University of China), and Professor Jixun Zhang (Associate Dean of Nankai University’s Business School), all of whom expressed their support for the forum’s mission.
The forum featured six themed sessions addressing cutting-edge topics such as big data, accounting standards, and tax administration. Doctoral candidates from various universities presented their research papers, with young faculty members providing expert feedback. Doctoral students from various universities presented their papers, followed by on-site comments from young teachers. Doctoral candidates Ping Yi and Tianjiao Zhang presented their working papers respectively. Both received high praise and constructive suggestions from commentators. In the sixth session, faculty members Lu Liu and Yukun Pan offered detailed critiques and recommendations for presented papers. Associate Professor Haoran Xu presided over the closing ceremony, during which Professor Youchao Tan highlighted the forum’s focus on timely themes, including breakthroughs in data asset measurement and the economic consequences of accounting standards, underscoring young scholars’ innovative methodologies. Associate Professor Haoran Xu announced that the 19th forum will be hosted by Dongbei University of Finance and Economics in 2026.
Since its inception in 2006, the Intercollegiate Academic Forum for Young Accounting Scholars has fostered the growth of young scholars through its unique format of doctoral presentations and faculty critiques. It has catalyzed numerous high-quality academic contributions, significantly advancing accounting research in China. This year’s forum continued this legacy, showcasing the creativity and problem-solving acumen of young scholars through its forward-looking research themes and methodological innovations.
